TW: Incest, Pedophilia, Sexual Violence

Literally what it says on the title. Reminded me of [b:Consent: A Memoir|53327897|Consent A Memoir|Vanessa Springora|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1596430964l/53327897._SX50_.jpg|74967335] by [a:Vanessa Springora|19855159|Vanessa Springora|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1580908693p2/19855159.jpg], but far more frankly unapologetic about being a bad victim.

The only reason I rated it and rated it high is so that more people are pushed to read it.

Im not clear about my point of view regarding incest on its own, if it is for or against it, as I haven’t really been forced or volunteered to think about it. Partly because I’ve had no such experience and partly because I’ve been generally in denial of this subject.

However, I firmly stand against paedophilia and rape. I stand against people suppressing the voices that speak against such perversion. I stand against families believing the survivors stories of being raped, whether as a child or adult, by another family member or someone close to the family and yet unwilling to confront their surviving family member’s culprits. I stand against people who judge the survivors and question their character or their coping methods (except the abuses by the abused who become abuser’s which I don’t judge but can’t accept them as justification) but not look at the culprit with the least amount of disdain or questing eyes.

It is high time we start proving instead of just pretending that we are different from other being by using and polishing our conscience. All the technological and infrastructural development doesn’t make us, human beings, superior to other beings. It means shit if the ultimate essence of humanity will be this invisible yet prevalent cancerous darknesses in our souls/energies.

no one ever talks about this side of it, never this candidly.

devastating biography. i hope the author is in a better place and shame on people comparing her trauma to any uninspired variation of "torture porn".

i feel uncomfortable rating this memoir, as it is the author’s lived experience. the book is a difficult read, even for someone that works with survivors of complex sexual trauma. i read it as i thought it might be important / offer insight for the work i do. it was also a “staff pick” at a book store i visited (i’m still not sure why).

the memoir offers insight to the author’s chronic childhood sexual trauma and the impact it has had on her ability to form meaningful adult relationships.

the book is also explicitly graphic and unsettling. i imagine it could be triggering for many. it left me feeling a sense of urgency for this author to seek treatment.

i feel this book might have been helpful for the author in processing her experience, and benefit those with a similar experience to feel less isolated - but, readers should enter into it with a sense of caution.
