Dani Trujillo writes such good characters. I absolutely love Buffy and Santiago. The patience Santiago had with Buffy was so sweet. I also liked that we got a bit more of Calehan and Xiomara in this one.
There were some plotting/pacing issues, which were also present in Lizards Hold the Sun, but the characters really do make up for any shortfalls. Honestly can’t wait for more of this series.

Overall this was another enjoyable read from Dani Trujillo. The characters were fun and I liked the romance/spark between Buffy and Santiago. It was easy to root for them and their characters. There were some characters from Trujillo’s previous romance but you could easily read this one without having any prior knowledge of the first book.

There were some plot points that kind of fell to the side halfway through the book. I wish those elements were still kept throughout. Also the speed of the story really increased half way through as well. So the pacing wasn’t totally consistent.

But I really enjoyed the setting and the characters a lot. Would recommend to others who want to read a romance about indigenous characters who find their joy, people, and love.
