I was disappointed with this. It has this huge scope to it that felt promising at first until I realised that the characters were necessarily 2 dimensional because there's just not enough "screen time" given to each one to allow the author to reveal who they are. I quit at about 40% because I was bored with it.
Very, very good read, the character work kept me going.

End of the world book caused by nuclear war. Starts with some minor issues and slowly escalating. Semi realistic
Really good book with an inevitable ending. My only issue with it was that the majority of the book took place in Northern Africa with an incredible story showing spies fighting against terrorism, only to abandon that and completely switch to a nuclear war story in East Asia. Yes, the two were connected, but I didn't like how the north Africa story felt as though it came to an abrupt ending. The end of that conflict did not seem to connect with the one presented in the final 200 pages or so.

The best part of this book was the feel. Creamy smooth pages (none of that deckled edge nonsense here) and SO many of them. Easy lightweight read; not a single memorable character. Nor was there an unexpected interaction or outcome. Overall, meh.
