I really liked this retelling of Beauty and the Beast. T. Kingfisher excels at taking a story you know well and creating something fresh and new (and often scarier) out of it. I also really enjoyed Bryony's sister, and would have loved additional scenes with her, or even her own story.

No shock here, but I absolutely loved this. I loved T. Kingfisher's take on the classic Beauty and the Beast tale. This is a darker retelling than most. The Beast himself is pretty amazing; I don't think I've ever run across a Beast as sarcastic as he is. And Bryony, she is such a joy. She's a devoted gardener, and devoted to her sisters. She's sarcastic as hell but capable of great sincerity and kindness. She's dedicated and stubborn and smart. And she's the one who drives the story. She makes the choices. She solves the mystery. Bryony and the Beast had great chemistry and their banter was honestly top notch. God, this is a good book. Highly, highly recommended.
