Kind of a campus novel, kind of a classic coming of age, kind of an eventual fuck you to white Australia. The writing is clever and engaging and I found it really relatable. Would highly recommend as antidote to the usual middle class pomp.

If Babel and Yellowface had a baby. But lose the magic and make it an essay. Not an enjoyable reading experience.

Another excellent addition to the collection of novels following disillusioned, marginalized PhD students as they navigate the horrors of academia.

This just felt like the author was using the “character” as a puppet to voice her own opinions - it felt like a memoir, not a fictional story with fictional characters. Had Yellowface vibes.
