Hilarious. This series. Is the best.

Funny and touching describes this book perfectly – there were moments when I was cackling with laughter, and more than a few moments when I had a tear in my eye.

If I say that figuring out what happened to dear Mrs Dolores Abernathy is the least of Tristan’s worries, then you might have a little insight into what a riotous ride our poor lead is in for.

This book reminded me a little of Murder She Wrote or perhaps the Aurora Teagarden movies, with Tristan somehow running from pillar to post, experiencing things that he could never have expected, whilst inadvertently assisting Danny in solving the murder.

We get to spend a bit more time with Danny in this book and discover a little more about what led to him coming to New Scotland Yard. Chan is back and experiences a far better birthday than they could ever have expected. Evangeline reminds me of a slightly annoying ghost Dumbledore, with obscure clues to help Tristan along the way, and the romance between Dusty and Bruce is going strong.

Underlying all of that is the sweet, sexy romance between Danny and Tristan, with both of them fearful that although they love each other, things are moving so quickly and needing the reassurance from friends as well as each other to accept that all is going according to plan.

And speaking of plans… anything more would be a spoiler, but if you enjoyed the first mystery/romance with Ms Dusty, then you will love this one! A thoroughly enjoyable read and I look forward to the next ‘case’ with happy anticipation.

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for a fair and honest review.

SpoilerI stopped when Dusty crossed to many borders while in Tristan's body: Dusty, you are an asshole!
I hate her behaviour in so many levels, I stopped reading.

Tristan's had six months to get accustomed to life as a medium - sort of. And he's also had six months of getting to know the new people in his life, Dusty, Chan (Dusty's life-long best friend), and Danny. But it's also six months he hasn't been able to tell Danny about his ability, and that will have to change sooner rather than later. But first, he has to help Mrs. Delores Abernathy with her unfinished business.

I never expected a murder mystery to involve a long-term care home for patients with varying dementia diagnoses, a community centre filled with retired ladies, and more cryptic ghosts than ever, but here we are. This murder mystery is absolutely nothing like I expected, but that's what made it so much fun. It was a wild experience from beginning to end, and I honestly don't know what to make of most of it.

There is something deeper at play here - there's a long game being threaded along plot-wise, and I'm extremely intrigued. I'm also mildly terrified. There are precious few things that give me more anxiety than the unknown, and that's definitely what's going on behind the scenes - the complete unknown.

But Tristan's not flying blind alone. Tristan's built himself quite a community of ghosts who are helping him along his journey. And while some ghosts are a fair bit more cryptic than others - Evangeline comes to mind here - others truly do just want to help make things as peaceful as possible. And these ghosts will likely need to step up in a big way, if the ominous warnings Tristan's received are anything to go by.

The second book of this series was far more plot-advancing than character-building, and I'm okay with that. I'm already desperately emotionally attached to these characters, and I have a feeling moving forward, we're going to have a solid mix of both. Especially with Tristan and Danny becoming far more serious in their relationship. It's going to continue to be an interesting adventure, and I'm here for it.

Another ghostly spirit pops up and Tristan is again dragged into solving her murder. Tristan and Danny's relationship is progressing nicely, and they're all kinds of adorable, even if Tristan is hiding his ghost-seeing abilities. They have their moments of vulnerability and insecurity, but they try to be honest in communicating. Danny is super protective of Tristan - the sweetness of their romance is lovely and there's minimal angst with Tristan's secret.

Danny's reaction when Tristan told him was the best - I loved a supportive boyfriend! Slight nitpick, wished we could see more of Tristan supporting Danny - so far it seems like Danny is doing the heavier emotional lifting, and his own issues aren't really explored. The mystery is stronger than the last, and the side cast is fun (Chan ❤️). Dusty as Tristan's spirit guide is as hilarious as ever.

3 Stars

A fun story. All the little old ladies were adorable and liked the long lost love story. I am really interested in the new characters that were introduced. There is a lot of potential there and I can’t wait to see how things work out for the whole lot of them.
