I couldn’t connect with this book. While i was on the page i was into it pulled in. But when i was off, i didn’t think about it. I couldn’t even remember what happened in what i had read. I spent more than a week reading 5% every night until i couldn’t anymore. I couldn’t get past what I did. The writing was good but the characters didn’t connect with me. I didn’t care like I did in book 1. It a
Was definitely faster-paced but less human????? The characters even eugenides felt like characters.
I am so upset to have to do this but if i kept going i would throw myself into a reading slump. I can’t do this to myself.

I have nothing but love for this series but I do like this one a little less than the first book. The timeline is spread out a lot more and the perspective jumps around several times for tiny glimpses at what’s happening in different parts of the world.

I was also just as confused this time as I was the first time I read this about Eugenides being
in love with the queen of Attolia.
It feels kind of random and like it’s mostly just the basis for bringing two countries together against a common enemy.

Everyone says The Queen of Attolia is so much better than The Thief, and they were right. This is a delightfully charming fantasy with engaging characters and a gripping plot. I love me a good political intrigue, and this book delivered!
An easy but immersive read. I highly recommend it.

This just wasn’t holding my attention like I needed it too. I had absolutely no desire to keep picking this up and finish the book.

the women hard-carried this book on their backs. sure gen is cool and all, but irene and helen? they are my beloveds and i shall not tolerate any slander against them!

(the romantic subplot could've been executed a bit better tho)

Megan Whalen Turner should get on Twitter so that when she gives me a heart attack on the train at 7:33 in the morning I can yell at her for writing such a good goddamn book.

This book is bad freakin ass and I don’t usually say that about politics/intrigue. My jaw hit the floor at around 85% completed AND STAYED THERE. Do yourself a favor and listen to the audio of this series by Steve West. You won’t be disappointed.
