I seem to be the only person who liked the first book more. The political intrigue was amusing, but it got a little too cheesy for me, romance-wise. Three stars feels a little low, so I'll clarify that this series is still very interesting and I'm excited to read more.

Doing a re-read of this entire series before starting Return of the Thief.

Third time and this is still a 5 star read for me. It’s a perfect little novel: great world building, a twisty plot full of political intrigue, and the romance, *SIGH* the romance.

I enjoyed the unreliability of the main narrators and other povs. Im getting a bit annoyed with flashbacks to clues that were withheld from the reader in the moment that they happen. I don't need everything spelled out but a dropped hint that we could later Clock as being a proper clue would make it a lot more fun as an experience.

Plot reminded me a bit of quintana of charyn by melina marchetta, in a good way.

I enjoyed this and The Thief, but the pacing of this one felt screwy, and although I did get a flutter from the romance it felt a little ungrounded. The best thing about these stories are the clever machinations. I’m happily digging into book three.

I liked this book. I think that i enjoyed the thief more, but this was still enjoyable. I would have given it a higher rating but I dont like the fact that it feels like the author dumps a bunch of stuff at the last minute. I would have liked for there to be more exciting events happening in the middle of the book rather the beginning and the end. I guess i kind of lost intrest in the middle but gained it back at the end because thats when it all came together. Usually I like this, but for some reason it was too slow in the middle for me. Maybe because it was more about war strategy then fantasy when i like fantasy more. who knows, but im debating on wheather or not to read the rest of the series.

P.S.- this review is major rushed so i apologize for the crappy review. i just wanted to outline the way i felt so i would remember when i was deciding to read King of Attolia.

Do not read the Publishers Weekly review published on Amazon if you are thinking of reading this book. If I hadn't read it, my rating might have been higher. The strong point of this series is the plot twists, but the review gave away the whole story.
