The author literally never missed an opportunity to graphically describe a woman’s breasts or insert sexual assault when neither moved the story along, and I couldn’t escape the feeling that the author was describing his own fantasies/fetishes. Gross.
The story villains were one-dimensional and predictable. The only redeeming quality of the book was the interesting insight into monastical culture and medieval politics.

Interesting historical realistic fiction with many intertwining storyline. Main protagonists feels like you can root for them. Antagonists are definitely awful. Did not enjoy the sheer volume of graphic & explicit scenes including numerous SA. Towards the end of the story it felt like the plot line was wrapping up and then there was more...and more 😅. It was overall good but I don't know that I'd recommend it personally.
