I was slumping while reading so I did read a bit slow for me. But I had a hard time getting into this book and really connecting with the characters. It's second-chance romance, which I typically really enjoy but this one was just ok. I've heard the second book is a lot better?

I didn't really understand the world building, or like why there was a college with witches and the MC is a witch but she like doesn't really know what she's doing. I know that getting stronger powers is kinda part of the storyline, but it felt a bit flimsy to me.

Also WHY did the narrator NOT USE AN ACCENT. It's one thing to have one narrator for dual POV (ugh), but HE'S WELSH! AT LEAST DO AN ACCENT! MISSED OPPORTUNITY!!!!

3/5 🌶️

This was a wonderful light romance perfect for Fall! Never mix alcohol and Magic! Fun read! Vivienne and Rhys meet at college and have a whirlwind romance until Rhys has to return home. Vivienne nursing a broken heart accidentally puts a curse on him with her cousins help. Fast forward nine years and Rhys returns to Graves Glen for founder's day. When he reaches the town everything goes wrong for him. Even worse when he goes to charge the town's laylines the curse infects the town's magic. Now Vivienne, Gwyn, Ellen, and Rhys have to figure out how to reverse the curse.

Really enjoyed for a lighter witchy read for the fall! There were some plot holes and things that felt unnecessary to the story but it's a good read if you don't take it seriously.

This book was really fun and perfect for the season. I loved the magic elements and the small town environment was giving very much Gilmore Girls, along with the relationships between the female characters, those were very GG coded as well. I thought the romance was cute and I liked the dynamic between Rhys and Vivi but I do think the reason for their breakup is dumb, especially because it never comes back again the way you would expect, so it makes the thread feel unfinished. Additionally, I found the ending to be kind of abrupt.

What a fun little witchy romance! Though the plot was fairly superficial, I thought this was a fun book to get you in the mood for spooky season.

This felt like a rom com crossed with a Disney Channel Original Movie in the best way. I felt as delighted by the whimsy and witchy plotline as I did watching Halloweentown as a kid. I had fun reading this from start to finish. I will say that the two leads felt (unnecessarily) super horny and that did make me roll my eyes a bit, but that's common for romance novels so I know it comes with the territory. Maybe other people actually experience that kind of ridiculous sexual tension, but I don't, so it always takes me out a bit. That's my only real critique though, and it's minor. If you want some cozy small town spooky Halloween vibes with lots of good people trying to be nice to each other, I recommend.

Listen, how many times do I need to say that witchy romances are just a good time?! This got me in the mood for fall for sure, and it was a fun mix of romance and magical problem-solving — very much a Hallmark movie about witches vibe.
I wanted more attention to be paid to Vivi (her personal and magical journey) and the town history aspects of the story, but overall this book has great characters and a fun plot.
