This was really cute. I wasn’t sure how much I was going to enjoy a modern witchy love story, as I tend to go for more high fantasy type worlds, but this was really enjoyable. A quick read with a bit of spice. The plot did move really slow at some points and really fast at others, but overall - a good little comfort read. I kept thinking about how it would make a great movie.

I liked this book, but I just sometimes thought it got a bit boring at some parts. I loved the autumn vibe of the book and it did feel very cosy. I thought the enemies to lovers could have done a little better, because they went from supposedly not having any feeling for each other and then loving each other. There were some cute scenes too though. I thought the climax was great and the plot twist didn’t shock me but it was a good part in the story. The middle was just boring for me even though stuff was going on. This was a good rom-com perfect for autumn.

Very light on the world-building, this is a fantasy rom-com for non-fantasy readers. It's cute fluff with a dash of mystery in the last quarter or so, which made it feel rushed right at the end. I think the pacing was off throughout. Listening to the audiobook, I had a hard time because the narrator took me out of it—consistently mispronouncing "library" as "liberry" and completely failing the Welsh accent...criminal. While it's understandable that British characters would use British terms (shitematetaking the piss), it did not work in an American accent, unfortunately. Anyway, two stars because it was short and entertaining and I liked the vibes. I would have appreciated more of the mystery (or even foreshadowing!) earlier in the story and a deeper exploration of how magic works in the world. If you're looking for a book that reads like Halloweentown + sex, this might be the one for you!

Cute and comforting, witchy romance, must unite to break the curse

Decent writing, if a little cheesy. Leans a little YA besides the vivid-yet-unexplicit steamy scenes. Would definitely pick up the second book as a casual read.

Tldr: lots of buildup, not much payoff, but the writing and characters are neat.
