In my humble opinion, this is the strongest book I've read in the Heroes of Olympus series so far.
Annabeth is the boss. She is genuinely in her ultimate form here: smart, brave, right-fully terrified and just straight-up AWESOME!
I love how we're finally getting somewhere with making our characters become genuine friends without forcing it. Jason and Percy are getting somewhere and Leo is still in his awesome Leo glory. And I'll say it, Piper is growing on me. Like really growing on me.
HOWEVER... Since when did Nico Di Angelo become Hazel's brother first and og series main cast guy second? Seriously. And the Percy problem ughhh. This is why I dislike relationships in plot driven fantasy adventures because authors forget how to make characters exist outside of their partner. Same problem with Hazel. Also, since no one's saying it, I will. Coach Hedge is not a funny character. Please stop pretending he is. Humor might be subjective but nails-on-a-chalkboard annoyance certainly isn't.
