I learned a lot from this book. It's a great example of the sort of book that makes you think about how you would behave in a difficult situation. The writing is lovely, and a complex issue is dealt with in a way that I felt was appropriate for a middle grade audience. There was a wee bit of sentimentality to it, I thought, which was the only thing that kept it from being a five-star book for me.

Very interesting lower level read about the Nazis in Denmark. I would recommend this book for kids and their parents.

I remember loving this as a kid, but time completely erased the actual book from my mind, so I'm glad that our curriculum offered me an excuse to reread it. Such an amazing book, it made for a great read aloud.
