They say nonfiction is about "them" and fiction is about "me". This fiction book is perfect for this moment. It's a long book, the beginning is a bit of a slog because they need to lay a foundation, but get through it and enjoy the wild ride the rest of the book takes you on.

DID NOT FINISH: 41%

I read the first book in the Poppy War series and it wasn’t for me but the writing and plot was fairly good. So when Babel was released, I thought I would try another R.F’s Kuang book.

At first, Babel had a promising start but as the novel approached the halfway point, I found that there wasn’t as much plot or character development that I would have liked.

On a positive note, the commentary on racism and colonialism (as well as the use of language) are done really well so I would recommend reading this book if you don’t mind a long, slow book with a complex plot.
