Best book I’ve read in 2025. Loved the unique setting/older characters and the found family vibes are off the chart / top notch!

ALL OF THAT AND THEY DIDNT GET ANY TIME TOGETHER?! >:(  Blurb was misleading AF. If this wasn’t an audiobook I would’ve thrown it across the room.

The book has a good premise but the constant narrator and timeline switching makes it hard to follow for most of the story.

I was so immediately charmed by this novel, from the beginning the writing was sharp and funny and I knew I was in for a treat. Amid the sun-soaked, topless, queer vibe of this book was a sad and poignant center, the characters were dripping with joy and grief and love.

I don’t always enjoy dual timeline books (I’m kind of the “just tell it from beginning to end” mindset) but I think that structure totally worked for this story, a woman at the end of her life looking back while also celebrating with her friends. If you’re looking for a dystopian/cli-fi book, like this has been kind of advertised as, this is probably not the one to go for, the climate fiction was more a vibe than it was a thing that would scientifically make sense (I was initially confused about how a fully functioning resort and supply chain could exist when Florida was basically under water, but then realized that it didn’t really matter so stopped overthinking it!).

I felt very emotional but in a mostly pleasant way by the end, I will definitely be recommending this one. If this is what my 70s can look like (drinking cocktails with my gay friends by a pool) count me in!

Thank you to @avidreaderpress for this gifted copy!

This one hurt. 😭

This was one hell of a debut novel from Grace Flahive. It was punchy, fun, and so delightfully queer. Grace’s word choice and phrasing was just perfect, especially for this motley crew of characters. I don’t know what I expected the ending to be like, but I knew it would gut me no matter what. I was correct. It was the perfect blend of realistic versus “happy ending”, and I know I’ll be thinking about it for a long time.
