Oraya emotional journey was so raw and relatable, I'm so heartbroken for her!
I hated the ending tough! Wtf!
I really need a serious relentless + brutal revenge arc in the next book!
Plus: I need to know more about Vincent, whose story we learn almost nothing about. To me he was the most interesting character, I loved the mystery that surrounded him.
I request a prequel about Vincents life, pretty please 🙏

Enjoyable read though, but it was very much a "kinda want to see what happens" vibe that drew me to ordering the next book, not a "I need to know what happens NOW".

The book starts with Oraya who was rescued from her burning home by the vampire king Vincent. We learn how she grows up embracing what’s known as her serpent teeth or in other words her fighting spirit. She may be human but she’s got the heart and fight of a vampire.
To gain respect and power she and her adoptive father decide she should enter The Kejari, a once in a century fight to the death tournament- typically fought in by vampires. She needs to win. It is here she meets Raihn.
This book was so exciting. I mean I’m a die hard vampire girly, and to have vampires meet the hunger games meet From Blood and Ash, I was buzzing! The challenges were so exciting. I was on the edge of my seat reading the fighting scenes and usually these are something I find myself skim reading.
There’s so much mystery woven through this too. Constantly second guessing who you as the reader should trust or believe and who you’re rooting for (other than the obvious- Oraya). It’s so intriguing and gripping.
The fantasy elements of this were brilliant. So well thought out and developed and I’m excited to see where else this goes in the next books. World building was dense at first but there is a glossary in the back to help this if necessary!
Alongside the beautiful fantasy writing though we also have a delicious slow burn of a romance. I am talking tension. The little touches, him pushing her limits, the way he looks at her. Sublime.
There’s a moment in a cave, and if you’re a vampire lover and vampire romance lover especially then you’re going to dream of that cave scene. Frankly I want to go back and reread it.
And when they finally kiss. Jesus take the wheel. Gorgeous. Perfection. This mountain of a beautiful vampire man calls her princess too? Like sorry? Is that not the best. And the way these two learn to trust each other is everything- it’s so so beautiful. “Give me one honest thing”.
The plot twists were twisting and for the last 10ish% of the book they just kept coming one after the other. I’m honestly obsessed with the writing and would really recommend giving this series a go! He gives off touch her and die vibes, but also a bit of a cinnamon roll. He’s big (in more ways than one) winged, and can wield special powerful shadowy magic. Swoon. We love a shadow daddy.
