The good? I liked the relationship between Oraya and her father. They had some good scenes. I also enjoyed the dynamic with 3 of the characters when they lived together. The bad... the writing style wasn't bad but it wasn't particularly memorable. The final twist, despite its predictability, frustrated me. It is such a common trope now that definitely could have been done better. Lastly the fact that
he kills her father and then forces her into a marriage
just completely kills it for me.

I’M IN DENIAL! ❤️‍🩹😩

“This was the stare of a creature who understood she was confronting death itself, and still chose to spit in its face.“

Badass FL! This story felt unique and captivating. I love the description of the world and the role all the characters have to play in the movement of it. I felt captivated from the very beginning. I loved how each character developed as the book progressed. The pacing was great! It gave enough time for things to unfold exactly how they should. It didn’t feel rushed to me. THIS IS QUALITY STUFF!

THAT TWIST ALMOST BROKE MY SPINE! I had vertigo the last 100 pages 🫨! I finished and stared at the wall for at least 10 minutes. The only thing I took points off for was the fact that I wanted to hear more about the build up behind the scenes with Vincent. I felt like that would have been the cherry on top! It would have set the stage for…. Anyways I loved it and I’m running to the next book 🏃🏾‍♀️💨.
Vincent 😩🤧!!!!!!!! Raihn 🤬😭😰🤧!!!!!! I did not see that sh*t coming! I was running around my room T R A U M A T I Z E D! Oraya 😭 I- I have no words.

This was such a good novel! I couldn't put it down. I was genuinely very enamored with this vampiric world and how Oraya fit into it as a human/not human (since she doesn't really consider herself human). I was glad that her father, Vincent (honestly a very weirdly normal name), clearly loved her. I was worried that by the end of the book I'd hate him when I found out he'd been manipulating her. In a way, he was, but in other books when this is true, the person doing the manipulating doesn't usually care for the MC or regret what they did. You could tell in the story that Vincent truly loved Oraya and wanted the best for her, even though he didn't tell her who she was to him. I also really enjoyed Rhaine as a character. He was very sincere and was clearly so in love with her. I'm glad that even though he lied to her he clearly would die for her, and was very sincerely apologetic about what happened. I'm excited to see how their stories end.

Entertained by the story, but found the world building a bit confusing, like there were some major questions and plot holes that were left unaddressed.
Why would a human be allowed to enter a vampire competition? Why are there so few contestants to begin with? How is there still a sizeable human population if they're being picked off by dozens of vampires every night? How does no one notice Oraya is killing vampires at night? How is she somehow the smallest contestant by a good bit, as well as the least talented with magic, and yet she wins fairly easily? Humans are clearly able to wield some type of magic, but this isn't explained at all.
Also somewhat irritated by the constant use of "spat" and "choked"
