This is a gorgeous book that disarms you with its cute, whimsical art style just so it can shock you later. The best way I can think to describe it is if we had documentaries that were less cold on the facts and more emotional about the animals individually.

This is a world of little people and things like getting eaten by birds and bugs is just a usual danger. Yet, socially they are still people and participate in societal behaviors. Thus, its exciting to turn the page and see whether they'll be bullying someone out of a tea party or if they get carried off by a bird.

It feels melancholy and bitter sweet, the juxtaposition between the art style and the realities written in this world, harsh and cold. Its one of my favorites and I've gone back to the library again and again to check it out.

Extremely disturbing. Lord of the Flies in a graphic novel.

what in the world. it's so bleak. like, i went in knowing next to nothing about this and then...man.

Dark, weird and whimsical.

Honestly, it’s strange. But I didn’t hate that about it. It’s Alice in Wonderland meets Lord of the Flies meets Lost. There’s some graphic gore, but it’s minimal, I guess. I enjoyed the hand drawn art. It was whimsical and detailed and that’s what drew me to the GN in the first place.

beautifully illustrated but so unsettling! jesus christ this was disturbing

A patron requested this via ILL and I'm glad they did cause I'd likely never have read it otherwise. Unsettling, ruthless, and gorgeous. Like The Borrowers but vicious and hateful. Except Aurora maybe. Reminded me a bit of A Bug's Life too--especially the anxiety of when they were hiding from the bird.

Hell hath no fury like a Lilliputian scorned.

Charming and off-putting, often within the same page. This lushly illustrated survival story shines a light on the opportunistic danger of the wildness found in both nature and ourselves.
