Offbeat and disturbing, which I recognize was the point. The juxtaposition of sweet illustrations with morbid themes has power, but I'm not sure if the work as a whole is as successful as it could have been. In particular, several of the transitions (or lack of) jar the reader from the story, which breaks not only flow but also mood -- and not in the way the creators likely intended.
