this is a bizarre little story

sort of like the borrowers: now with 200% more murder!

anyways afaict when a little girl dies all the imaginary figures in her head escape out and things proceed to get disturbing

i'm not really sure i see the point? i mean there's some shock value in the contrast of the art (pretty watercolours) with the content (ALL the death!) but. ehhh. don't fairytales usually have some sort of ultimate message?

unless the message is 'little girls' imaginations: MORE creepy then you'd think!'

the art really is lovely though. and i suppose there's a market out there for dark/horror fairytales, angela carter's been making a pretty good living off it

reads like a nightmare

(desperately adds to the reading challenge even though i dont usually add graphic novels)

this one was really gross to read but weirdly interesting? it left me uncomfortable for like 3 days afterward i think thats probably a sign of a good book
the art was nice...i love the cover...and aurora in her mouse cloak looked cool af

One star because I can say I "didn't like" this, but deserving of more stars because I appreciate this :/

So...I read this without knowing anything about this title, or even reading the back. I sure didn't know what I was getting into and I think that I had a disturbed look on my face the entire time I was reading it, and I wanted it to be over. I wasn't expecting something that felt like horror. When I finished, I thought, "WTF did I just read?" I guess it was...different? In some ways it's a throw-back to the mood of old fairy tales in which arbitrary and brutal fates await those who wander into the forest, mixed with Honey, I Shrunk the Kids/The Borrowers tiny people and Lord of the Flies. The bright, children's-book-like art style definitely contrasts with the subject material in a striking way.
