This guide is one of the only Madeira-specific guides I found, and luckily it was great! Great suggestions of attractions, natural settings, restaurants, and shops. We used it multiple times and found everything to be up-to-date.

Gearing up for my trip! Although most of my research will be done online because food is a big concern for me. Apparently Madrid is ahead of the curve with gluten-free stuff but way behind with vegetarian stuff. Hopefully that Venn diagram connects...

Madrid is a big city surrounded by several smaller towns making it a day-trippers paradise. Unfortunately, this guidebook has almost no information about any of them. When it comes to the big museums like El Prado, Reina SofĂa and Thyssen, it has a map of well-selected highlights that helps you find the famous must-see works.

Apart from that, Madrid isn't a city of landmarks like Paris or London. Get a map of the metro and the museums elsewhere. ask some locals about bars and restaurants. Google day trips to Segovia and Toledo. Save yourself a few bucks.
