Less instructive and more personal anecdotes than I had expected. Love hanging out, don’t mind hearing about people hanging out.

It was super anecdotal and long-winded; I was hoping for much more research integrated throughout, and/or other peoples' experiences.

Some choice quotes/observations, but on the whole, I found myself wanting more, or something different from this.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the chapter about “jamming” and what goes into that musical form of killing time / hanging out was one of the more interesting / appealing sections for me.

Woah, this is another case where the interview about the book was more inspiring than the book! The Ezra Klein podcast hour was incredibly, inspirational, potentially life-altering. So when I finally got off the waitlist and got to try this book, I wasn't expecting it to be a mix of film/literary analysis with a lack of focus on the reasonings and emotions behind "hanging out" as Liming discusses on her media tour. Some great pieces, good quotes, and fond memories, but this book did not live up to my hype!

Good concepts and good intentions…too wordy and too long.

DNF @ 15%. Preachy as heck, also it is TREMENDOUSLY ableist to wholly discount virtual interactions as valueless. This whole book gave me the ick.
