Shouldn't even rate one star.....and I paid full price for the hardback! I LOVE Robert Parker's books and someone wrote another Spenser book after Parker's death, I read that and it was good--got the dialog down pat. This however, was terrible. It reads like a screenplay. This person walked here, this person came through the door, etc. Very one dimensional. Jesse falling for the new woman so fast just seemed to be obligatory romantic interest, Brandman's attempt to portray Jesse's laconic speech seemed rude instead of sassy, absent was the usual entertaining conversation with Molly and Suitcase, the movie star is a caricature of snobbery and self-centeredness, and the parents of the teenager who keeps breaking the law are also caricatures of well-to-do's who think they have the right to buy everyone off and then demand return favors. I won't be fooled twice by this author.

Not as good as an original Parker, but adequate. OK for the treadmill...

Jesse Stone encounters Hollywood in his own backyard, along with a jealous husband. Sub-plot with a juvenile delinquent he begins to save, a la Spenser and Paul Giacomin, though far less satisfying.

You would never know Parker is dead as Brandman's touch is seamless. Another quick and engaging read that leaves you anxious for the next book. Love this series and the character, Jesse Stone. In this installment Jesse deals with an arrogant rich girl, a movie crew, and problems at the water department. Jesse continues to push against those who would control him, whether they be bureaucrats, the rich elite, or politicians. Some surprising turns in the plot that capture the meaning of the title. Now this would be a great weekly TV series instead of the made for TV movies with Tom Selleck.

Autumn in Paradise, Massachusetts, is known for its peaceful charm, but this season is anything but serene. The arrival of a Hollywood movie company has stirred up trouble, bringing with it the troubled star, Marisol Hinton. She may be stunning and talented, but she's also filled with fear. Her estranged husband's jealousy has her on edge, worried that things could take a dangerous turn. When a death threat arrives, Jesse and the local police go into full alert mode. Little do they know, the danger extends beyond what Jesse can imagine. Lives are at stake, including his own.

I really enjoyed how short the book was, which allowed me to finish it quickly. However, overall, I didn't like it at all. It felt juvenile and had too many different plotlines happening simultaneously. The writing style didn't resonate with me either. I hadn't realized who Robert B. Parker was when I bought the book at a thrift store, but judging by other reviews, it seems like I would have disliked it even more if I had known.

The main character seemed overly fixated on a teenage girl, neglecting other important matters. Admittedly, the girl's reckless behavior and her parents' behavior were significant issues. However, when faced with other problems, Jesse chose to delegate most of the movie production responsibilities to one of his officers and arranged for a former criminal to be the actress's bodyguard. Even when he suspected the water commissioner of wrongdoing, Jesse didn't bring in experts for an audit or investigation but rather had casual conversations with people involved in the fraud at the water company. He didn't even check his own water bill for any signs of irregularities.

Instead of focusing on more pressing matters, Jesse's attention and actions were primarily directed towards dealing with the young lady who was a chronic texter while driving. While I understand that it's a serious problem, I felt that Jesse had more important tasks to attend to. As a result, it's no surprise that everything ended up going wrong for him.

Overall I just did not enjoy this, and I unhauled it once I had finished it.

Weird way it was written. A lot of dialogue made for a fast read. Almost like a movie script

Loved the book even thought it wasn't that good.

Plot was substandard, writing was average, pacing was uneven but despite all of that it passes the most important test which was that I didn't want to put it down and couldn't wait to get back to it.

3.5 stars . No big mystery but lots of characters and a bit of mess. This story is about A Hollywood star murder , a ruthless teenager's accident and Jesse Stone pulled into the cases. All these happening in Paradise Island.

Very good Jesse Stone

Another Jesse Stone novel that doesn't disappoint.
