This was a fun play on classic murder mysteries with a supernatural twist.

Great sense of voice for the ensemble of characters, and very well narrated on the audiobook. A little overwrought, and has some repetition that could have been edited out, so at times it feels a bit more like juvenile fiction than an adult murder mystery. I guess those are the trappings of part of the story. Very enjoyable, if not entirely convincing/satisfying in the reveal and wrap-up.

The sexual assault is a very brief encounter between an 18yo and a 13yo, both drunk, and the 13yo tells the reader she is pleased at the attention, but it's already an uncomfortable situation and a polluted power dynamic. Thankfully this doesn't go all the way and ends when the girl says no.

I was extremely into this story, and I appreciated the story the whole way through. The writing may have had a tiny edit for my preference, but I will definitely read this author again. Love a twisty tale.

I'm always annoyed when a mystery constantly brings up "what happened that night" through the whole book. Obviously a mystery is going to hold back information, but it's obnoxious to repeatedly refer to "the incident that changed everything". 

Especially when in this case it honestly could have said that Daisy was dead from the start! She could have still been a ghost worried about her family being murdered with very little changes to the story. Though tbh I was not thrilled by the supernatural twist, so 🤷🏻

Overall, I very much enjoyed Daisy Darker by Alice Feeney. The only issue I had was with the pacing. If the author intended for the primary twist of the story to be shocking, she spent too much time in the middle of the book laying out breadcrumbs for it to come as a surprise, and it weighed the book down. That being said, I didn't guess the ending completely and I thought the book was surprisingly emotional and I felt myself fighting back tears. I think this book is a strong 3.5 and definitely worth a read!
