A mystery in which a family with a plethora of dark secrets is stuck on an island house where they are being killed off one by one. As secrets are revealed, the truths about the family starts to come to life and the flaws of the characters are shoved into the light evoking absolutely no sympathy as they begin to die. The reveal of the murderer is shocking and subverts the general standard of a murder mystery although one of the plot lines revealed in the conclusion was predictable, it wasn’t a disappointment in the end and there was a sense of sympathy and sadness to the finality of the book.

What a ride! I love the way this book was written.  The flow of the story was fantastic and the reveal at the end was great! Daisy has a heart condition.  Her family acts like she doesn't exist. She stays away from everyone except her loving grandmother. On her grandmother's 80th birthday she summons the entire family to her home for one last family celebration. When Daisy's grandmother turns up dead Daisy knows she has to figure out who killed her.

A clever book, but also really sad. Great twist at the end.

I was extremely into this story, and I appreciated the story the whole way through. The writing may have had a tiny edit for my preference, but I will definitely read this author again. Love a twisty tale.

I really enjoyed this book and found it entertaining, but I do think it could’ve been better. The flashbacks to Daisy’s childhood, while providing some nice context, dragged on a little too much compared to the rushed ending. I understand the author was trying to help us understand the characters and their flaws, but it was so slow and dragged the pace down from the present-day murder mystery chapters. I definitely think we could’ve had quicker summaries of character flaws and used those extra pages at the end of the book.
.
The last 40 or so pages felt forced to me, like it was wrapped up a little too perfectly. While I love the twist of Daisy being dead the entire time (I totally had to go back and read some paragraphs!), I didn’t find Trixie’s motive realistic. I’m not sure I find murdering her entire family and turning herself into an underage orphan over a child aunt that died 15 years earlier believable. It just wasn’t compelling enough for me. I wish we had a longer ending and better explanation for Trixie’s motivations and justification. Nana’s made a little more sense to me, but it was still hard to find believable in my opinion.

Feeney is good at making a creepy atmosphere, and I could visualize the house really well. I didn't love the twist.
It was something I thought about early, but dismissed it. I honestly think this would have been more enjoyable if she had survived instead of becoming a ghost, and lost the memory of the accident. It would have been more creepy and crazy imo, for them to still kill the family members because of Daisy's abuse, which is what I thought before the ghost reveal.
