This book started out very strongly for me, and don’t get me wrong, I still definitely had a lot of fun with it! However, I usually hate unreliable narrators in horror or thrillers, but I feel like the story was at once a tad too cut and dry for where the “movies” of hers could’ve taken a twist. At the same time, I felt like there were far too many cooks in the kitchen when it really got down to it.

I’m a big fan of Riley Sager. I know his work isn’t for everyone, but I ATE THIS UP. Finished this book in just two days and my heart was racing the whole time. His ability to write a book so that it plays like a thriller/horror movie in your mind (😉) is honestly unparalleled. I truly don’t know if anyone else does plot twists quite like Sager. This whole book had me on the edge of my seat, trying to figure out what was really going on and what was going to happen next. It’s a quick read I would recommend to all thriller fans — ESPECIALLY if you love classic horror/thriller movies from the 70s-90s!

Even though I guessed who the killer was just 20 pages into the book, I still enjoyed the ride! (pun intended)

I did appreciate the other twist & absolutely loved the very end. I was so nervous about this one, but I'm glad it didn't disappoint!

Nix the grandmother twist & the marriage of the kidnapper (I’ll even allow them to be trauma bonded friends, but MARRIED??) and I’d have 4 stars to give. Im no author but I can even imagine this being a 5 star read with some simple plot changes at the last quarter of the book.

Okay sooooo at first, I didn't get the hate. The first chapter or two wasn't too bad, I didn't agree with all of the characters choices but I was interested and invested. OH boy but did that change. I did NOT hate this book, I actually enjoyed rage reading it to some degree. At first it was upsetting but when I embraced the stupidity it was fun. I do think there were a few interesting ideas, and I did like some of what happened. But there were some big decisions that were made that actively pissed me off.. sooo yeah.. not great.

Thank goodness this was not my first Riley sager book because it would of been my last. Dumbest main character EVER. I’m disappointed that I waited a year for this. That scene in the diner…. Awful
I’m hoping for better next year
