But Captain Steele is also Blackheart? *Gasp*

A pirate, with a heart, that can fall in love? Where do I find one of those. This story was excellent. The adventure was excellent and the love story was sweet. So far my 2nd favorite Dukes of War book.

I was glued to this story from page one and couldn’t put it down! There is an instant attraction between them that can’t be denied no matter how hard they try they can’t stay away from each other. The moment he delivered her to her family and left made my heart hurt because there was something special between them. I loved when she decided to board the ship and hide because I didn’t know what his reaction would be and it was a total surprise!

She arrived back on the ship in time for a treasure hunt full of surprises and for them both to give in. I needed a fan when they couldn’t hold back anymore. Neither one is willing to give up their way of life for the other yet, but love won’t let them say goodbye that easily.

Clara believed she was dying and sent her daughter away to keep her safe and was surprised when a handsome stranger says he’s been sent to get her. I loved her from the start because she wasn’t anything like you’d expect and was ready to defend herself. She is one of the feistiest women and doesn’t hold back about anything.

Gregory tries to put up a hard front, but those that know him know he has a big heart. He couldn’t deny that he wanted her even when she drove him mad by sneaking on the ship and not staying put. I loved him right away because he knew she needed help and he wasn’t going to let her die.

I love that both are a bit older and know what they are getting into.

The two people on the cover of this book are nowhere near their forties

Steele turned his face toward the open hatchway and bellowed, “Galley! Tray of lukewarm scraps for the lady.” “Everyfing’s still hot,” came the return shout.
“Dip it in the ocean,” Steele called back.

I appreciated that Steele and Clara were both in their late 30s and this wasn’t some grizzled pirate ravishing a virginal miss, but overall the chemistry felt contrived. The plot rushed forward so fast only to spend the last 10% in a very stupid conflict that was easily resolved.

Another great read from this series! I really liked the feel of adventure these two felt with one another. They just had wonderful chemistry and it was a real treat to watch them fall in love.

I've been waiting for this novella for a while now, the story of what really happened when Lord Carlisle sent the pirate Captain Blackheart to collect Grace's mother from America, how Captain Blackheart finessed the marriage of his ward Daphne and his chase of the Crimson Corsair.

This didn't disappoint.
