This was my first Maggie Nelson book it was extremely academic which I gather is not her usual style. I’m not all together how everything linked with freedom, but I noted quite a few source materials while I was reading that I would also like to read. I may try a different book of hers, but this was heavy and slow going for me.

Exceptionally written - beautiful, patient investigation of the complexities and contradictions we must face, anyone interested in living Freedom

Was a lot to process while in the midst of burnt out. Wasn't expecting such an intellectual book. i should've known better, i have read Argonauts by Nelson. Will likely attempt to read it again at another time.

I loved this book, especially the last section about the climate. I love Maggie Nelson’s densely theoretical yet somehow like very conservational writing, and the ways she traces her various meandering trains of thought. Lots to keep thinking about. Really really good wowowow

It took a bit to find my stride with this book, however, I’m glad I stayed the course. My favorite chapter was “The Ballad of Sexual Optimism,” followed by “Riding the Blinds,” the latter of which offered a truly nuanced and helpful conversation on climate anxiety and how one can act in the face of imminent and ongoing climate destruction. I’ve highlighted so many passages throughout this book and am hoping to come back and refer to them as time goes on.
