This was the first semi serious book I had read in a while.  The story was really good and I loved the characters.  It was not a super light hearted book and was actually quite dark at times but it felt hopeful and told a story that I hadn't really read or seen anywhere else. While it was not the best book I've ever read it was enjoyable.

A quick, mostly fun read. Indeed, there were some dirty stories -- I was expecting more, though after the first few my prudishness got the better of me and I skipped, which is the joy of reading -- but a lot of it was about culture and clashes between first- and second-generation immigrants. Some of it was belabored. I got frustrated with the "we can't tell you" a major plot point "because you're not part of our community" as a writing device. A lot of it seemed reductively dualistic: modern v traditional, pleasure v prudishness. That things are as simple as flipping a switch and everything is okay. I was also was not a fan of being in Kulwinder's POV (and did we get into Nikki's mother Harpreet's POV?). Eh, anyway, it might be a fun beach read if you're looking for a dual-culture novel.

I did learn what "ladoo" are!! I'm very excited about this.

An incredible nuanced story of strength, sensuality and growth. I was surprised by the attention paid to every side character, how each of their unique stories contributed to the larger whole.

What a fun, mysterious, and sexy romp! A lot of really loveable characters- the widows sort of remind me of the nuns in Sister Act. The main character Nicki is charming and good and speaking up for herself but imperfect enough to be relatable.  This overarching mystery of Mya holds the story together and everything wraps up nicely in the end. A very satisfying summer read- totally recommend!
