Throughout reading, I kept thinking to myself: I can't believe she would share so much with us but I'm grateful. But the reality is, of course she would. That's what you learn and see when you read, a woman who would be vulnerable, who would be open, who would share, if it meant it could help someone else. I have long adored Ms. Tina. I grew up with Destiny's Child and Solange and have been a fan as they grew into their own solo spaces. Her fashion, her wit, and her readiness to stand up for her girls no matter what has always been endearing. I wasn't certain what to expect with this read but I was truly taken by the storytelling, by the journey, and by the lessons. I'm inspired in the same way I feel when Beyoncé dares to do something new and excels at it beyond my wildest imagination and of course I am. I see where she gets it from. I think this is not a worthwhile, but necessary read for Black women and girls who dare to dream even a little. It was affirming to my personal journey. I have long felt grateful for all the versions of me I've been, but I look even more forward to the ones I might become.
