Death By Smoothie by Laura Levine is the latest in the Jaine Austen series. Jaine and Prozac are back. Jaine gets a job through Lance's new love interest working on the script for the stage version of cult classic I Married a Zombie, while also trying to get a job with the Pasadena Historical Society. Jaine finds herself mixed up in another murder investigation after the nightmare of the star of the play is murdered with a poisoned smoothie. Lance doesn't believe his love could have been the killer, although Jaine isn't too sure. Jaine's bestfriend convinces her to bid on a bachelor in the name of charity and she soon realizes she needs to get her money back.

As usual, Daddie-O finds himself at odds with Lydia Pinkus when he joins the talents show. He and Jaine's mother keep her updated on his exploits as he searches for his iguana, who he just knows Lydia stole.

I always look forward to catching up with Jaine and Prozac and seeing what Daddie-O gets up to down in Florida.

Thank you to Kensington Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC.

prozac!

I actually had a great time reading this. I laughed to myself a lot. I’ll definitely look into the rest of the series.

A lot more engaging and fun than anticipated! There are 3 types of chapters: plot related to mystery, story related to personal (social, romance, other career) life, and email correspondence between parents and main character. The mystery occurs about 50-60% through the book but finding the culprit was a bit quicker in pace and fun with twists.

This was a fast read and yet it took me ages to get through. Pros, plot wise, pretty good at keeping you guessing, super easy read, took me probably about 3 hours total. Cons  constant talk about food every couple of pages, a somewhat annoying side plot with email exchanges better Jaine and her parents, and everything wraps up in the last 4ish pages with a dumb motive. Won't read again but might explore more of the series!
