I just looked at the other reviews for this book, and I wonder what it means that like half of the people listing it on GoodReads are named Adam..

this book feels especially apropros considering the problem of placement and the occupy movement. there doesn't seem to be any solution to the problem of how to politically assert a universal value nor a contingent one with regards to figuring out what the fuck the left needs to do. the most exciting part of this book is seeing judith butler use an articulation of this problem to explain the tremendous strategic deficit in the gay marriage movement, using language that sounds just like what we would be using to explain this problem when the marriage debate would become so monolithic and terrifying four years later. i wish i had read this sooner. i really enjoy the way this book is reading, forcing the thinkers to each respond to one another's thoughts. this is the first time i've read either butler and zizek, and i think i have more insight into the way their minds work.
