I must say, I did like this one better than the first. There was a lot more action and danger, which I loved. But there was a lot more romance, which I didn't like that much. I can't wait to read the third and final book!
I thought this book was so much better than the first one (and I never think that)! The plot was faster paced even though it did start off a little but slow. I love how new characters were included in this one and the growth of other characters, although I believe we could have seen a bit of a stronger lea rather than her relying on Demitri. Well, Demitri! Your dark, mysterious stranger that turns out to be good ( at the moment as you can't trust anyone in this book). I thought some of the things happening were quite predictable. Overall, I am looking forward to see how it concludes in the next novel, and hopefully see more plot as they didn't make that much progress as I would have liked. One thing that I would have liked to see was a bit more on Alice, maybe a chapter on just her and her interaction with rhe souls and seeing her powers grow? I think that would have been interesting, to see more of the 'evil' twins mind.
Definitely a filler book. I'm still going to read the last book, but idk.
I love this book so much! It's the second book in one of my favorite book series ever! Definitely would recommend!
I loved this book!!! I can't really give it a review without giving out spoilers. It starts off a bit slow but picks up and then you just can't put it down!
If I had to sum up this book in ten words, they would be: Gothic, dark, prophecies, demons, angels, haunting, Victorian, betrayal, paranormal, dark. Notice how dark is mentioned twice? Yeah, that was intentional.
I don't usually do this kind of dark, demons and angels, otherworldly, Gothic genre. The only reason I started this series was because two twin sisters destined to be sworn enemies, one good, one evil, and bound by a prophecy, sounded pretty cool. And the first book, was quite hard to get through. The characters were kind of stagnant, I was expecting more action, and the whole creepiness of it all didn't really suit my taste. But, I buckled down and read it. It was satisfying I guess. But I had to read the next book. And let me tell you, Guardian of the Gate was definitely, a step up from Prophecy of the Sisters. This one was addicting, and kept moving forward, and filled with eerie yet fascinating legends and prophecies. The only reason I knocked off one star was because as I said before, the whole horror element of it....eh.
The prophecy was based off of the Watchers tale, in which angels came down and took humans for their wives. So they're known as "Lost Souls" or "Fallen Angels". And their children are Nephillim (Mortal Instruments, ring a bell?) So there are two sisters, one a Guardian (Alice), the other the Gate (Lia). However, their roles are basically switched, because Alice is the wicked, evil one who wants to let Samael (basically Satan) through and wreak havoc on the world. Lia's doing everything she can to stop her. Told from Lia's point of view, the Guardian of the Gate focuses mainly on Lia's journey to get the missing pages of the Book of Chaos, so she can find out a way to end the prophecy that's haunted so many generations of twins. But along the way, Samael, Alice, and his Souls try anything to prevent them from finding the pages. Hellhounds and other dark creatures hunt them, someone close to them is corrupted and betrays them, and many other tragic events. Still, Lia perseveres. You gotta admit, she's got endurance.
I don't recommend this book for everyone, but I do recommend it for whatever teens (definitely a teen book) who are into that paranormal, dark fantasy genre that's trending right now.

I wasn't that impressed by the first book, but this one was more exciting.
Great book, a little confused about where they were going until they were there, really good book, enjoyed reading it! Must read the last book now!
Usually book 2 in a series is the weak one, not this one! I LOVED Prophecy of the Sisters, so I was very excited about reading Guardian of the Gate though I was not expecting it to be as good as the first one...What a wonderful surprise I LOVED this one even more than the first! I loved the new characters and to know more about Lia. Can't wait to read Circle of fire :)
can't wait for the secound one i read this book in one day!
