I really liked this book. I definitely got teary eyed for the last few chapters and rightfully so. I wanted to see Mitchell and Lavish work up to their love a little more, like a little more back and forth with the soft moments, but that’s just a personal preference for me. The story was honestly beautiful. I like Mitchell’s development and how he treated Lavish and constantly speaking life into her was bomb. And his family was everything. Even though they knew what was up, they were still good people and I loved that for Lavish.  I think KB did really well at tying everything together like the story with Lavish and her family made perfect sense. It all tied in so well and while this story broke my heart, it also pieced it back together.

This was so beautiful and so painful and I am an absolute wreck.

I knew, I FRIGGING KNEW, when it was mentioned Mitchell's dad was diagnosed with liver cancer that I was going to end up crying.

I lost my dad to liver cancer too, and this book had me crying so hard I couldn't see straight, so I had to pause for a bit to cry it out and then I continued reading through the tears.

When I started it I wasn't expecting it would be so emotional, but I'm glad that it was. The love story was sweet too. I mostly read marriage of convenience stories in historical romance books, so it was nice to change it up and read one in a contemporary setting for once.

GO READ THIS RIGHT NOW IF YOU WANT YOUR HEART TO GET STOMPED ON.

Kimberly Brown is a new to me author and I'm so glad that I decided it to pick up one of her books.

From the very beginning, I was sold and was excited to see how Mitchell and Lavish’s story would develop. Mitchell was so patient and caring with Lavish, especially having learned how terrible her previous marriage was and how difficult her life has been. While Lavish was very open and honest with Mitchell and was not afraid to “tell him about himself” when he messed up.

This was a beautiful tale of finding love in the most unexpected places and at the worst possible time and I enjoyed every second of this book.

It was just so cute and sweet and I'm melting all over the place!! 🥺🥺

Open to Love

I’m always here for Black Women being loved right (especially after trauma). Mitchell was rough around the edges but the care & protection was there from the beginning.

& I love a “let me learn how” type of man, put that ego to the side for the person you care about. Lavish was guarded & rightfully so, it took her a while to open up but this was a nice story. I really wanted to see her go to therapy because healing is beautiful. Beautiful ending!

Another 5 star read

This story was really good. I love a good marriage of convenience. Lavish and Mitchell were an unlikely pair, but somehow it worked. I’m so glad Lavish let all the hurt and pain she had and just took a chance on Mitchell. This story was so so good.
