Grumpy x sunshine, friends with benefits, single dad, sort of enemies to lovers
Pretty solid time. Definitely some insta-love, but the yearning and build up was pretty good. I liked both Luke and Allie even if we didn't get a ton of character development. It was a fairly straightforward story without a ton of digging deep in general, but I like how Karla Sorensen writes, and the narrators were good.
After her father passes away, Allie returns to her home and is surprised to learn that he left her his football team. On her first day, she's introduced to the team quarterback, who just so happens to be her new neighbor that she didn't start out on the best foot with.
Luke is a veteran QB, with one superbowl under his belt, and has been chasing his second for years to prove the first wasn't a fluke. He's determined and focused, and he won't let anything distract him from keeping his eye on the prize. He's also a super devoted father to a six-year old girl, and he works hard to keep himself out of the media to protect her.
There is so much I really loved about this book. The writing is superb. Really, just super well-written. It also has the perfect amount of sports in with the romance. And the sexual tension between Allie and Luke? It's so thick you can cut it with a knife. Can a Sports Illustrated photoshoot be considered foreplay?

Because my goodness is that one hot scene, and the MCs barely touch each other!
But despite all I loved about this, where the book really falls flat is the smexy times. When the MCs finally get together....after all that tension, and two super sexy starts and then cockblocks...the sex is so boring and bland that I honestly couldn't even tell if they had finally gotten it on or were just rubbing each other a bit.

The tension in this book is soooooo good, so the lack of good steam is just so, so disappointing. The first scene I didn't realize they had sex until after it was over, the second is a fade to black after the condom comes out, and then there was one more super boring one. It's not that I have to have heavy steam in every romance I need, but this couple needed it so bad!
So all that tension was wasted and the relationship didn't end up feeling as strong by the end as it was supposed to.
The ending was also super abrupt. Jarringly so. There was an epilogue at least, but I felt like something was missing to really wrap it up.

Cute. Quick. Hot. Really enjoyed this one!! Of course I’m always down for a sports romance! Excited to read more from this author!!
3.75 Stars In preparation for The Lie, and the fact I've had this on my kindle for over 8 months, I decided to dip into an author I'm a big fan of's most talked about series. It didn't disappoint. It was pretty low angst, and was so fast paced I read it in one sitting. I was a big fan of Allie and really liked any scene with Faith in. It took a long time for me to warm up to Luke but I don't think there's a sports romance I don't like...so there's that. Bring on The Lie.
Single parent goodness. I liked how Faith friended Allie. I loved Faith and Luke’s first meeting. I loved Allie blaring her music pointed right towards Luke. I loved how Allie was her best when she was her casual self with Luke. The paparazzi also sucks. Real life and fiction.
