I like that it recapped Avalon High so I didn't have to re-read it, but nothing happens this whole volume. The art was cute and the cliffhanger was aggravating.

I wish that Meg Cabot had written a sequel to the book rather than attempt a manga adaptation. All the manga did was heap frustration on disappointment. I do not recommend this manga series, but I highly recommend the book.

So this is the first manga out of the 3 that continues the story from Avalon High of Meg Cabot.

I was quite happy when I found them because I thought that Avalon High could have used a sequel or two hahaha and I like how she continued them through these.

Elle and Will are going on with their teenage lives along with their friends Jennifer and Lance. Things should be going great for them from now, but always the idea of the reincarnations will linger over them as Elle is now set with a mission from Mr. Morton.

Convince her boyfriend he's the reincarnation of King Arthur by Friday? Now what Elle has gotten herself into?

The graphics are really pretty and the story is easy to follow. Even if someone read them without reading the first book, they could understand as a small recap from what happened before is shown through pictures in this.

I'm looking forward to reading the second book now.

Ellie just moved to a new school where she is flourishing. Will is super popular and her boyfriend who even, better yet, lives with her because his parents kicked him out. Even more exciting, Will is the reincarnation of King Arthur who has saved Ellie for almost being killed. However, Will must truly feel that he is the reincarnation of King Arthur by this Friday; otherwise, the earth with be cursed with no peace forever.

This graphic novel obviously has a very cheesy plot line. Even worse, there is not a lot to the plot line beyond the description on the back cover before the huge cliffhanger ending. However, the ease of reading would make this series a great choice for a reluctant reader to motivate them through the several books in the series. I felt like the novel wasn’t installing the best morals for children: ie her boyfriend lives with her? not the worst thing but still not something you encourage. Also, I understand that there is a style to “real” comic books; however, I felt that they could have left out the rique boobs pictures that is an unrealistic portrayal of the character anyways.

Overall, I would only recommend this book to a very reluctant reader if they showed interest in it for the mere fact I think there are other better books worth reading.

Okay, I haven't read Avalon High... and... I guess maybe you kind of need to in order to fully appreciate this book. It gives a brief overview of the premise in the first chapter - at Avalon High, many of the students are possibly reincarnations of Arthurian characters. Now, it's theorized that in order for Elaine's boyfriend, football player/Arthur, to save the world, he must learn who he is and accept it. The only problem is that Elaine can't think of how to convince him that this crazy prophecy is real...

It made me intrigued to read Avalon High so I could figure out what was going on. I think it's a really interesting premise for a book and I love that they've continued it (or summarized it?) in graphic novel format.

Readalike suggestion: Runaways graphic novel.

This is the second graphic novel I've ever read. I'm starting to wonder why I went so long without reading them. This is a great one! King Author has been reincarnated as a high school boy. The problem is, he doesn't believe it. If he can't accept who he is, the prophecy will come true and the world will end. Can Ellie convince him of his true identity, or will she fail? Definitely a must read for all graphic novel readers and Meg Cabot fans. Loved it!

I loved Avalon High so much and I was very excited to read this book. I didn't know it was a comic when I bought it, so I was kind of surprised when I started reading. I missed Cabot's writing, but despite that I liked the book.

I think to understand this graphic novel, you would have had to read the original novel... which seems to defeat the purpose. Things are glossed over, no detail is given and not enough background information.

I really liked the reflection images of the characters between their modern images and their iconic counterparts.

Avalon High: Coronation Volume I: The Merlin Prophecy
Created and Written by Meg Cabot, Illustrated by Jinky Coronado

I grew up reading comics. I read them as a child and I collected them as an adult. I currently own 2 huge storage boxes filled with classics such as Ghost Rider, The Incredible Hulk, She Hulk, Wolverine, Sandman, Watchmen and more. For an MLS class, I needed to read two graphic novels. I thought to myself, ok, I can do this! I love comics, I love novels, what’s better than the two of those combined?

This graphic novel was based upon Meg Cabot’s book Avalon High. Avalon High is a retelling/update of the Arthurian legend. This graphic novel, the first in a series of three, starts with a recap of Avalon High and then continues with Elaine being nominated for homecoming queen and trying to get Will (her boyfriend and the next Arthur) to believe that he is the reincarnated king and to reunite with his parents.

Ok, I am a huge Meg Cabot fan. I am not ashamed to admit that I have read all the Princess Diaries books, all the Mediator books, all of everything she has written actually. I was not a huge fan of Avalon High but since I am treading on new ground with graphic novels, I thought I would pick one where I was at least a little familiar with the characters. Wow, I really hate this medium.

First thing I hated: The “book” is about 109 pages long. If the words were strung together on pages instead of snipped together with graphics, I would be shocked if they filled 20 pages.

Second thing I hated: The text and illustrations were choppy. I had a hard time finding the words on the page, the graphics overwhelmed the words at times and I found the whole reading process extremely unsatisfying.

Third thing I hated: The story just ended... in the middle of a plot point. If I wanted a cliff hanger, I would watch television! I expect books with a sequel to have an ending which leaves me wanting more. I do not expect them to stop in the middle of a scene.

It turns out I am not the ideal audience for this medium. I would recommend this to a reluctant reader or to a comic book reader looking for just a little more. I would warn them that it ends too quickly and suggest that they check out more than the first one if they think they might like it, that way they could keep going and not break stride.
