I dont know how to review this one. Its just one of those peaceful little books that makes you feel at home. Like reading Agatha Christie under a cosy blanket in Autumn.

The writing itself is okay. The characters, lovable. The little stories often humorous.

It isn't a good that makes you excited to keep reading, so I would not advise anyone who isn't familiar with this older style of writing to read this book. It's one of those where nothing exactly "happens", it just continues...

A lovely, homey read.

This was adorable. Elizabeth Gaskell does the interior lives of spinsters very well, spotlighting characters who would not normally get that much of an in-depth exploration. Interesting how it differed from traditional Victorian structure by hinging on sibling relationships rather than marriage.

This was such a delightful little read, and helped me to understand how regency era social structures started to slip away during the Victorian era! A great depiction of when one generation finally lets the next take over. I could’ve used a sprinkle more character development- especially with the narrator. But regardless, loved it. Also- I want to live here. A Victorian town where the society is ran by women? Yes please!

I happen to love books where almost nothing happens and Cranford definitely falls in that category. Very sweet, also funny at times, this story is like reading a series of updates from your great aunt about the goings-on in her small town. There’s not a tremendous amount of plot, just a series of anecdotes about how life jogs along for a group of older women in a small town, where protocol is taken very seriously and unforeseen changes and disasters are met with acts of kindness.
