“I wonder if there’s
any Radiation about?
Well, if you can’t see it and can’t feel it,
it can’t be doing you any harm, can it?”
This was a depressing story, and I don't think there is any other word that would best summarize this tale than that. Following Jim and Hilda in the aftermath of a nuclear attack from the Soviet Union on Britain, we see the slow deterioration of the inside of the home, the outside of the home, and the outside of our main characters, but surprisingly, not the inside. Unlike something like The Walking Dead, that dives into the psychological effect of the zombie outbreak on the survivors, Jim and Hilda continue to just be themselves, and older married couple who enjoy reading, tea, and sunbathing. The final panels of the graphic novel are haunting, and it shows just how much they truly loved each other no matter what occurred, and how easy it is to continue on with life as if nothing even happened.
