I enjoy a lot of Connelly’s writing. He’s great at simmering, boiling, and then delivering an epic story. Unfortunately, this story’s crushendo read rushed. I wanted more spiderweb complexity here.
This is a good story. It is just not the best in the series. Looking forward to the next one!

I requested this book from NetGalley never expecting to actually be approved and, when I was, I was beyond pumped. I have been reading this series for years and I was so excited to get to read this latest release. The only downside to being approved and reading it so close to the release date, it will be an even longer wait until the next book is released.
I very much enjoyed this instalment in the series. There are three main threads to this story and I enjoyed them all equally and I really enjoy how well crafted Connelly's investigations are and how the stories unfold. I also love seeing that the Bosch part of the series may be moving to the next generation, despite how sad it makes me to see Harry getting on in years.
Can't wait for the next Connelly novel!

Characters felt a bit flat in this one (therapy sessions are not a substitute for motivations and almost no Bosch) but the plot sucked me in.

This didn't grab me as much as some of his other books. There were several stories going on at the same time and I didn't find any of them that interesting. But since the author is good at keeping the momentum going, I was still invested but I hope that the next one is better. This book especially made me aware that Renee is really just a female version of Bosch and she's not a unique character of her own.
