I’m addicted to Michael Connelly, and I especially love Rene and Maddie as a team. It’s the first time they’ve collaborated, and I’m super excited about this partnership - way more than any book with Harry as the protagonist. It’s now just 3:30 am, and I’m going to regret staying up all night to finish this book once alarm goes off in three hours.
All that said, it wasn’t my favorite of all his many books. Solid 4 stars enough. There were too many parallel story lines for my liking.
I’ve read Maddie growing up since she was first introduced years ago. Love the woman she’s become. Michael Connelly is so good at writing women heroes. I really hope to see these two tag team many more times in the future.

Another excellent entry in the Renee Ballard series. When Ballard's car is broken into at the beach, she goes after the perpetrators, resulting in a situation more complicated than she could have imagined. Meanwhile, DNA evidence pops up that could break open a legendary cold case. Tension builds as Ballard navigates her management, the volunteers at the Open/Unsolved Unit and her off the books investigation. Harry Bosch would approve.
