Bliss and Other Stories by Katherine Mansfield
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you to @lovebookstours & @listenwithaudrey for my gifted copy.
My thoughts: wow! I loved this collection of short stories that were all unique and delightful to listen to. From only six stories, she explored the themes of becoming, hope, waiting and expectation that were each different and so well written. I didn’t know that Mansfield only wrote short stories so I learned a lot about her and these stories. Highly recommend!

Loved by Ali Smith and envied by Virginia Woolf, in her short life, Katherine Mansfield wrote many stories that would end up among the most important works of modernist and feminist literature. In these innovative and captivating short stories, you’ll find a housewife’s sexual and emotional awakening, an actress’s desperate search for work, and other vivid moments crafted in fine detail and sharply-drawn characters.
Audrey Guide, Sophie Corser, is an academic and researcher of modern and contemporary women’s writing. In the guide to Bliss and Other Stories, she shares juicy facts about Mansfield’s own short but productive life, literary insights into the short story form, discussion questions provoked by the stories, beautiful images and, as in all Audrey guides, a brilliant playlist.
With hand-drawn illustrations by Rosie Leech.

This book was really not my cup of tea at all. It didn't feel like any of the stories had almost any plot at all. The characters did some things, sure, but nothing actually happened in most of them. It was extremely boring. I also couldn't stand almost any of the characters. All of the men were completely abhorrent and all the women were mousy and timid, if not completely subservient to the male characters. Definitely would not recommend this book and won't be reading more of Katherine Mansfield's stories.
