This story was utterly beautiful and utterly heartbreaking. Just George and Just Charlotte. I also enjoyed reading about Lady Danbury and how she became the great independent woman I love from the other Bridgerton novels. I found myself smiling, laughing and crying whilst reading this and absolutely loved every second.

I read the book before watching the series, so my review isn’t affected by comparing the show to the book. With that being said… I wasn’t a major fan of the writing style here. Despite this being a romance novel, I couldn’t really FEEL the chemistry between Queen Charlotte & King George. I didn’t get the usual giggles or warm heart that I usually do with couples I read about, so I was a bit disappointed in that sense. Towards the end really turned things around for me and made it a beautiful story, but the first half of the book was ‘meh’ for me.

I can admit and say that the show does a MUCH BETTER job of properly showcasing this story, but if I had to go back and choose, I would’ve just watched the show and skipped the book. The book is a carbon copy of the show with no major changes (at some points it feels as if the book & the script are the exact same thing). Would’ve given this book 2 stars, but the ending made me change my mind and give it 3. It was not a terrible book, but it also wasn’t the best book — just nothing to go crazy over.

Switches perspectives each chapter, not like the other Bridgerton books. Definitely telling and now SHOWING the story which I just can’t do.
