It was cute, a little too “convenient” of a climax

Review: How to Stop Time by Matt Haig
Quotes: "The longer you live, the harder it becomes. To grab them. Each little moment as it arrives. To be living in something other than the past or the future. To be actually here."
"Music doesn't get in. Music is already in. Music simply uncovers what is there, makes you feel emotions that you didn't necessarily know you had inside you, and runs around waking them all up. A rebirth of sorts."
"She laughs. It is the simplest, purest joy on earth, I realise, to make someone you care about laugh."
"It is strange how close the past is, even when you imagine it to be so far away. Strange how it can just jump out of a sentence and hit you. Strange how every object or word can house a ghost."
Review: Tom has a rare condition that allows him to age slowly. He ages about a year every fifteen that go by. He's a part of a secret society of others like him. There's a few rules. Never fall in love with someone and don't reveal the secret of their aging. They'll go to extreme lengths to remain hidden. Also, to move every 8 years.
While he's lived a long life, he's been alone for a long time. But always looking for someone that's dear to him. He gets horrible headaches due to his mind being full of memories. The weight of them. The burden.
The strength in the story is the writing about mortality, humanity, and love. It's difficult to describe. Some of the flashbacks are fascinating. The lives Tom has lived. Those he had to leave behind. The story is profound and grand. Everything changes, and yet it's the same. How some years or periods of time can be empty. Yet a short time in your life can seem so full.
Admittedly, I found the ending felt rushed. But I enjoyed reading this so much.
I'll give it 4.25 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you for reading 📚
