What if Rapunzel doesn't want to be a damsel in distress or used as a pawn? What if allying with the dragon to swindle gold from the corrupt and wealthy nobles is the best way to help the citizens of the kingdom? Cue the scheming, dramatics, banter and "Oh no, the princess has been kidnapped by the dragon! Again!" *wink wink*
Rapunzel's Gambit is a fast and fun fairy-tale retelling that is guaranteed to put you in a good mood! Rapunzel is mischievous princess and likes a good humored prank. When her corrupt father offers her hand in marriage (much to Rapunzel's surprise) to the knight who can slay the dragon her father blames for the kingdom's financial troubles, Rapunzel quickly decides that will not do. She also desires to help the citizens of the kingdom who are struggling to survive, and her father has ignored for far too long. What better way to accomplish both than to cut a deal with the dragon to pose her kidnapping and hostage the would-be rescuing knights for ransom? And what does it really mean when a dragon claims something as part of its hoard?
The best part of the book was Rapunzel and Pollock (the dragon's) growing relationship. They scheme and work as a team to help the citizen's in need. The teasing banter, vulnerability and growing care for each other is giggle and swoon worthy.
I hope we see these characters again soon!
Spice level is kisses only.

This is one of the most adorable and fun reads I’ve read in a long time.
A short book, but it was so fast paced and fun to read.
I didn’t see a couple of the plot twists coming and I pretty much finished this in one sitting because I had to know what happened.
A very cozy read and one I recommend. I’ll definitely be checking out more from the author.

This story is classic Mary Mecham; a cast of wonderfully, flawed and realistic characters that we love to cheer on no matter what, witty banter, a magical world you wish you could visit, and twists and turns galore. It was a delight from beginning to end.

I loved this book. I rarely give out 5-stars for fiction. To get a 5-star rating from me, I have to know I'll read it multiple times. This one I will read again. Soon! The story was interesting, the characters were enjoyable, and the banter was fun.
The author said on IG that there is a twist. I admit to hypothesizing throughout the book as to what that twist would be. I did not guess correctly. And I love that! It is a rare author who can keep me guessing for >75% of the book.

🌶️ Kissing at most
🌶️ 🌶️ Descriptive kissing and making out; no swimsuit areas mentioned. Still considered “closed door.”
🌶️ 🌶️ 🌶️+ Not for me.
