i struggled to stay engaged in this one. yea, there was some interesting stuff about non-conscious intelligence and evolution, but for some reason the plot just didn't keep me hooked. I see why people like it i guess

proper good meditation and metaphor for the world and the state it's in now. shows the dangers of social conformity, emotional bias and the refusal to confront uncomfortable truths for the sake of your own benefit. only through true cognitive diversity and fully embracing it do humans have any hope of actually surviving at all.

This book was special. An exploration of life, consciousness, and whether being conscious is even useful. Very cool aliens. The vampire lore was a bit strange, but I understand why he included it as it does support his themes. Definitely recommend.
