DAMN, this was hard to read and I'm saying that as a parent. I can sit here and say I would do anything to protect my child, but what would I do in this situation? I have no idea. It's horrific to think about.

this ruled in theory and less so in execution

I really enjoyed this book! The author somehow made an unbelievable situation feel completely believable. So an easy four stars.

My only gripe is that I rolled my eyes out of my head at the blowjob scene with the teenager in the bar. Added nothing to the story nor the character’s development, and gave off the vibes that the author was writing that part for himself. Massive ick.

Without being a perfect work of art, it is a good opportunity for reflection as a metaphor for loss and grief and the exercise of paternal and maternal roles. In order to do so, we will have to accept some  forced premises and, above all, a terrible epilogue that, in just a few pages, destroys what could have been a great ending.
In spite of this, a very interesting story that, obviously, could be made into a TV series. Pet Sematary In the Flesh, or Leftovers vibes.

I really enjoyed this one! It was absolutely heartbreaking to watch the characters try so hard to keep their children alive but it was such an awesome read.

there was sad scenes, cool sciencey talk, creepy kids, what more can you ask for?

I didn't love love the ending but still really enjoyed.

After a mysterious disease causes every child to suffer symptoms of a stroke and die, all at the same time, in a wave that sweeps across the world, the world is irrevocably changed as the ramifications of losing an entire generation starts to sink in. Then, three days later, every child wakes back up. Some of whom have already been buried in mass graves. After their waking they slowly slip back into a catatonic sleeping state and, through a random chance, it is discovered that ingesting human blood will wake them back up. A pint makes them wake up for about an hour. The human body contains maybe six pints and you can only safely draw two pints before you risk death to the donor. Soon parents struggle to compete and keep their children alive and the question of what would you do for your children begins to change everything.

He was convinced all grown-ups were monsters. They always had been. They’d hidden it, but the world had changed; now they were showing their true selves.

I really liked this book. it is a fascinating take on vampires for sure. The characters were interesting to watch in how they reacted to everything and to watch their fates unfold. Most of the characters felt like real people and their reactions felt entirely truthful to how they had been presented.

I can't delve further into events because this book feels like a real journey that should be taken blindly. If you don't really like kids (aka don't mind them all being dead lolol) or are interested in vampires I definitely recommend this book.
