I was so excited about reading this book and I was so sure I'd love it. It pains me to say that I didn't. Although, I could see how this book could appeal to some. The pacing was rough for me, I had to switch to audiobook within the first chapter to get through this one. There was a lot of backstory that went on about each character and yet I still found them hard to connect with. There were characters whos chapters added nothing or ended up being lose ends. A lot of this book is about Stanley Marigold how he was supposed to be this man behind everything and yet he never seemed to have an actual plan? Threshold was just a huge Boogeyman and that storyline went nowhere. They kept talking about "the price" and somehow that was underwhelming too. The gardener was such a letdown of a character too. And the book ends with the racoons running the place :/ like ok, so I wasted so much for that to be the ending. SO MANY LOSE ENDS. I wish I felt an ounce of suspense during the book. I will say though, the book does a great job portraying the grime and muck of dystopian Toronto along with the pitfalls of gig economy and trend food.

I had fun with this one - a dark story of a future Toronto crumbling under the costs of doing business. I thought it was just a little bit too long (some parts were repetitive) but overall I enjoyed it.
