4.5 ⭐️ The beginning dragged on a bit for me but parts three and four packed a punch. The epilogue itself was a solid five stars.
I had such high hopes for this one and it just let me down.

I honestly just can’t be bothered anymore. I don’t like any character in this, there is nothing happening plot wise and I cannot see the romance in the slightest.
I feel like at 44% in a ‘romantasy’ there should be at least some development, yet somehow I’m not even sure that Michal is the love interest?! And I also don’t want him to be.
Him calling her ‘pet’ makes my skin crawl especially cause he is described as ancient (he is a vampire after all) and she is being described as extremely innocent and proper (also she just turned 19), that just doesn’t sit right with me…

I really enjoyed the premise of this, but considering this was my very first book by this author, it’s worth noting that although this book is the first in its OWN series, it is a continuance of ANOTHER series (this was unknown to me when I picked this book!)
Célie Tremblay is our PTSD-ridden FMC who is engaged to some dude who treats her like a prisoner despite her heroic feat of killing some evil lady. He literally gives her this title to appease her and gives her a false sense of accomplishment in order to reign in her desire of not wanting to be treated like a child. It’s infuriating. Why she stays with a man who allows her less privileges than a toddler is beyond me, but I digress.
Locked away in her tower, Célie is none the wiser of the happenings of the real world. Such things include the mysterious murders of supernatural creatures, whose bodies have been found haphazardly discarded around town drained of blood. After being humiliated and beaten by the resident bully of her fight-club-esque training session, Célie decides to visit her sister’s grave and discovers the body of her friend lying in the cemetery. She runs into a pale stranger in her panic but is unable to convince anyone who comes to the scene of her suspicion.
The discovery of her friend’s body leads to her being put on ultra-super-mega-lockdown thanks to her numbskull fiancé. She breaks out of her chambers only to discover the multitude of murders they have been hiding from her. Feeling betrayed, Célie decides enough is enough (yay!) and uses her witch friend’s cape to explore the town for clues. She is mistaken for a blood witch and is suddenly abducted by none other than pale, cemetery guy.
Célie must now find a way to stay alive, solve the murders of her fellow townsfolk, and return to her totally emotionally incompetent finance.
