I have to say, this reads like a love letter to TVD and I’m not mad about it. Our favorite cast returns with an all new adventure, battling vamps and wearing leather, and its general mayhem in the best way.

I think this should be read after the Serpent & Dove trilogy. GAAH!!!! I loved this one!!! Perfect for October reading! Celie as the first huntswoman and dealing with her own demons, tracks a killer who is leaving victims drained of their blood. Celie only ends up captured by vampire Michal. Celie and Michal the tension is bubbling in a pop can! They also have some great banter. Shelby just has ways with descriptions and this book is full of actions as we have learned some revelations. The new cast members are great. I just loved being emersed in this world. Omg that ending!?!? I really hope the next one is releasing in January because I can't wait that long!

I enjoyed the premises, with the way it was a mystery whodunit. I gave it 4 stars because some of the actions of the FMC were a bit frustrating. Celie's need to prove to herself and friends that she's just as capable of figuring out things led her to make some naive decisions or act on poorly laid-out plans.
Sometimes I wish she would take a breather and think, or at least ask the right questions before taking action. I look forward to her character growth in the second book.

THAT WAS INCREDIBLE. Vampires are so back, and this book had everything I could've wanted from a vampire book and more. Spring 2025 cannot come soon enough because that ending was CRIMINAL.

I am OBSESSED with vampires and jumped straight into this blindly without knowing it was a spin off of another series that I had not read (serpent & dove). It did not appear to impact the read much but I think I would have appreciated it better if I had a stronger understanding of the built relationships. I wanted more depth and all the characters felt superficial.
The book started out as a good murder mystery but then just kind of dragged with filler until it picked back up on the mystery. This was even more of a let down because I suspected the villian pretty early once we received information about her blood being tested by chance. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the paranormal aspect but I just wanted the scenes to be more impact full. Especially all of the scenes at the dress shop that held little to no impact on the main story.
Anyway, this is one of those books where it’s enjoyable if you turn your brain off and would probably be best enjoyed after reading the first series. No spice just mega slow burn.
If I read serpent and dove trilogy I would likely revisit this to see if I enjoyed it more.

4.5/5
I absolutely devoured this book. It's got my favorite tropes so I can't say that I'm surprised. This book sounded amazing so I picked it up and while gathering my thoughts I realize now that it was a spin off of Serpent & Dove.. oops! Oh well, still loved it. loved the characters, the world and the concept. It was a fun murder mystery with dark gothic romance vibes from the vampires. The character development was very appreciated in a first book. The ending took me by surprise even if the epilogue didn't! Can't wait for the next one.
