I was so excited about the idea that Shelby Mahurin wrote another series in this world. I loved the Serpent & Dove series. This first book did not disappoint!!
Celie definitely grew on me in the S&D trilogy. When I found out she was the FMC for this book I definitely wanted to know where she ended up.
I loved that we are introduced to a whole new world of vampires. If you know me, you know I love books about vampires and this one is great!!
Without saying too much, Celie is trying to solve a murder, and she ends up finding out a lot more than she expects. Her character is brave but kind, and I loved watching her go through this book seeking justice and finding out things are not as they seem. Definitely a lot of mystery to this story! And the ending was unexpected and makes me anxious for the 2nd book.

This was is a vampire murder mystery Romantasy with a twist you’ll never see coming. It takes place in the same world as the serpent & dove trilogy but after months after gods & monsters. I really enjoyed the banter between all the characters but it wasn’t exciting enough for me. I never got that “can’t put it down” feeling however I’m hoping there will be a book two because would love to know what’s next for the characters.

I didn't realize this book was basically started where Serpent & Dove ended and I haven't read that series yet, so I was honestly a bit confused going into this book and kept thinking about just putting it down. However, I still really ended up enjoying it. I really liked the gothic, vampire vibes and the subtle romance as well. It is a pretty long book and drags a little but I'm looking forward to the next one. ⭐️ 4⭐️
